For the past 20 years, I have worked at the intersection of science and practice.<\/p>\n<p>Leadership, organizations, and people management have been at the heart of my work for many years. If I had to sum up what I believe in one sentence, it would be this:<\/p>\n<p>Good leadership and good people management are about maximizing organizational ability to act while binding as little attention as possible &#8211; getting a lot done without burdening people and organizations with costly coordination, control, and bureaucracy.<\/p>\n<p>I grew up in a working-class family in southern Germany. My father was a welder. Where I come from, one thing matters: whatever you do, it has to work in the end. That principle still shapes how I think about leadership and organizations today \u2013 practical, thoughtful, and undogmatic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1>\n<h2>IDEAS.
